Yes, we have people from UK here. I've spent about 15 months in Cambridge myself (the driest spot in England), and I still read and contribute to the AllStat mailing list. A decent proportion of our job ads are from UK and continental Europe.
I run an economics/ information consultancy from Manchester and have also enjoyed Cambridge's weather - Vincent omitted to mention that the dryness comes from the relentless cold winds blowing in from the fens!
Is this some kind of Old Boys network? I'm ex Cambridge, living near Manchester!
I'm down in Macclesfield, work freelance for pharmaceutical companies (mainly regulatory) and support medical writing & communications companies as well. Importantly, like everyone else, always happy for leads for work.
I'm also part of a face-to-face network here in Cheshire,England with other freelancers in a wide range of clinical and drug development skills - including medicine, regulatory, production, QC, Safety and project managenent. We're a fairly new network, but looking at ways to promote ourselves. [Individually, we all seemtobe quite busy - but we're looking tothe future!]
That's certainly a coincidence! I anticipate that Ning has the potential to accelerate social networks that might overtake the alumni route - in terms of quantity at least.
I've some experience of your industry - having done one-off research into the medical devices and "nutraceuticals" markets - but it isn't a major area of business for me. I'll get in touch if anything does come up.
