If each printer manafucturer introduces some unique printing defect in their machines, an invisible defect that would act like a machine ID, and would be invisible -- some kind of very light watermark that requires image processing and statistical techniques to decrypt them -- wouldn't this be a significant improvement to identify the exact printer where some counterfeit bank note is coming from?
