I haven't had an opportunity to read the current posts, so until I can I will refrain from contributing except to share a paper that some might find interesting for the way it cuts across disciplines to achieve real world (political) results. The best practical idea is the use of a Morton sequence (I used a Hilbert curve, in the event) to linearize a 2D map. The best theoretical iidea is the concpet of a physical template (map) that describes a consensus. Talk about semiotics!
