Scientist, Data Mining - LimeWire (NY, New York)

LimeWire is the most popular file-sharing client in the world. Every month, 50 million users use it to perform a billion file searches. Lime Wire is looking for a highly motivated data mining professional to help utilize this data to advance its business. Work will be done using a variety of data mining applications such as query processing, search relevance, content recommendations, advertisement, optimization of page layout and user research, and product management. The successful candidate will work with others in a newly-formed data and analytics team to enable rigorous, effective, data-driven decision making and optimization across all parts of the organization, including product management, engineering, operations, content services, advertising, and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Help define the overall data mining strategy for where and how we use data mining, what tools and technologies we should deploy, and much more
• Conduct world-class applied data mining to deliver on the strategy. This will include building out all critical tools, processes, technologies, and training
• Collaborate closely with the executive, marketing, product management, and customer support teams to understand their key challenges and drive improvements in their channels
• Act as a core member of the Data and Analytics Team and help drive and resolve broader team and business issues around analytics excellence
• Advanced degree in Applied Math or Statistics, or related field
• Strong background in data modeling and mining, statistics, information theory, text-mining, data analysis, and other data mining techniques
• Outstanding analytic skills
• 5+ years experience in marketing-related analytics and proven track record manipulating large data sets and making analysis actionable to improve business outcomes
• Foundational knowledge of databases and database architectures to extract relevant data from our data warehouse or other databases and collaborate closely with the data team.
• Strong background in computer science, algorithms, and software development
• Excellent Excel and SQL skills
• Ability to create and program new data mining algorithms as necessary to supplement external tools
• Ability to explain complex analyses in a simple, straightforward way and to gather and incorporate feedback from business partners
• Programming experience a significant plus
