From Tadaoki Uesugi - PMML for SAP, Oracle ERP, SCM, CRM, OLTP

I am a researcher in Hitachi, Japan. I
would like to ask if we can apply the result of PMML consumers like
ADAPA to the already existing systems in the Enterprise like SAP or
Oracle or other systems like OLTP.

I think that the real-time feedback of the result of the analytics and
the real-time optimization of the existing business workflow is very
important to explain the value of the Business Analytics to the
customers. I think that it is the missing point in the current business
intelligence systems which provides just the reports to end-users.

But, to realize it, existing systems which are already used by customers
every day have to understand the result of the PMML consumers. How do I
think this problem? or it this question meaningless?

According to ADAPA website, SAP can do it. But how about Oracle ERP or
SCM? How about other systems? or Are there any PMML consumer products
other that ADAPA which can be connected to the existing enterprise
systems?

By the way, if there are some ERP or SCM or CRM products which have the
functionality of PMML consumer, please let me know.

Hi Tadaoki,

Thanks for posting your questions on this forum. I was hoping your posting would have gotten more replies by now. Since it did not, I decided to give you my two cents, which will be from the ADAPA perspective.

As you noted, ADAPA can easily be called from inside SAP applications. That's because every time a predictive model is uploaded in ADAPA, it makes it available as a Web Service.

SAP has put together a paper describing the process (it can be downloaded from HERE). But, basically, a predictive model is built using the SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Workbench, exported into PMML and imported into ADAPA. By using ABAP, models can be executed from inside SAP with web services calls.

The key here is Web Services. SAP makes it easy. But, web services calls can be implemented from/for any system or application (CRM, SCM, ERP) and used to execute models previously deployed in ADAPA.

As you probably know, PMML is currently exported by all the top analytical tools. So, whenever a model is created, it can easily be expressed in PMML and moved around. For a complete list of all the companies and products supporting the standard (producers and consumers), please take a look at:

http://www.dmg.org/products.html

Hope this helps. Also, if you are not part of the PMML group in LinkedIn, please join us there as well. Currently, we are approaching 1,000 members.

BTW, I agree with you that real-time is the way to go for companies that want to benefit fully from predictive analytics. So, your question is not meaningless. As in the ADAPA case, it also comes with a rules engine and so you can easily implement decisioning around your predictive analytics. By combining both technologies into a single and concise solution that is available in real-time, you basically solve the problem.

We recently presented ADAPA at a Drools Bootcamp (sponsored by JBoss/RedHat). If you would like to take a pick at our presentation, you can download it from here:

Alex
Thank you for your useful comment. I have understood the mechanism which connects SAP and ADAPA. But I hope I can find the other examples if possible.

By the way, I am just looking the sites other than here and Linkedin where we can do free discussion on PMML or Predictive Analytics.

Do you know them?
Hi Tadaoki. Glad my comment was helpful.

Yes, I co-founded the group in LinkedIn. We have almost a thousand members there and the group is growing quickly.

You can join it by clicking on the hyperlink offered in our PMML Resources page (look for PMML Community Forum):

http://www.zementis.com/pmml.htm

Also, we also have lots of PMML postings on our support site:

http://adapasupport.zementis.com/

In this site you also find a section on Web Services. We have put together material on how to easily use ADAPA via web services calls from SSIS and Jitterbit (also videos).

As for the other examples you are looking for, please feel free to post your question on the LinkedIn group as well. Between the two forums, I hope you will get some valuable feedback. Also, maybe it will help if you describe your requirements, so that comments can be more specific.

Best,

Alex
