NewsMap by Marcus Weskamp

This is an example of a treemap style of data visualization. It uses the Google News Data API to assign color codes by country and relative area of each news story rectangle based on level of interest indicated by number of reads (and other factors), measured through the API.

The chart updates in real time, or as fast as the API allows, which is slow enough to be able to read and process the stories.
