Hi Alexey, thanks much for the encouragement! I think the answer would be: business users who are sophisticated enough to use pivot charts in Excel, but who so far have been unable to cross the bridge to data mining, because of cost/complexity/deployment/awareness issues.

For sure, there are many excellent data mining tools available today, but few work from the web, and few are accessible to users without a solid math / stat background. As a community, I think we're all motivated by the idea of making data mining techniques more accessible to a larger set of business users.

In terms of functionality, I try to keep things generic. I realize it would often be better to be more specific (ex: "discover frequent associations" should become using "find frequently related answers" when analyzing surveys), but it's quite expensive to customize for each specific domain. For sure, that would help a lot, though! Would love to know your thoughts on this topic...

Hi Dominic,

Great project! Keep up!

Just one question: who is your target users? do you expect OR/analytics pros to use this product or do you plan it as out-of-box solution for "everyone"?

In the interest of full disclosure I am far from a data mining expert, however, I am an analyst in the analytics space for long enough to have seen my share of tools - you can say I'm a bit of a collector free open source data mining tools :). I'm always interested in tools that make my life easier, and lately my interest has become more and more in the educational process behind all of this, and for me a big part of that is visualization. This is obviously a very challenging space to be in right now - lots of 'noise' and lots of cool free stuff out there - best of luck to you and keep us posted! Hi Bruno, thanks for the compliment. I just started this company after a few months of intense coding. As someone new to data mining, it's encouraging to receive positive feedback from experts with more experience. It's sometimes hard to resist the urge to always add more stuff, so not sure about a release date yet :)

This is great! Dominic are you part of the alpha or part of the company? Any idea when this will be available to the public?

Hi Alex, thank you for your comment! Are you asking about a/ which software application generated the tree map, or b/ about possible practical applications of tree maps ?

For the former please, see http://data-applied.com
For the latter, see http://data-applied.com/tree-maps/visualizing-product-inventory-using-tree-maps#more-17

Cheers!

I wonder, what is the application?
