Avik has over 9 years of experience in analytics, text mining, data mining and machine learning technologies across industry and academia. His expertise and uniqueness comes from his prompt business understanding coupled with deep expertise of Analytics. Over the past years he has been instrumental in transforming ideas into reality, developing solutions on cutting edge technology and creating value and ROI.
Avik currently holds the position of Technical Lead and Manager at the Analytics Competency Center at Persistent Systems. Prior to that Avik held the position of Chief Scientist, Strategist & Architect at Smarte Inc. At Smarte, he had been instrumental in overall design and development of the technology and associated algorithms. Avik designed the various business models and channels for delivering the technology and also managed the entire development team.
Avik was the core member of the R&D team at Zycus, where he developed the core products for spend analysis: AutoClass (automatic catalog classifier) and CatSearch (Catalog search engine) and also received patents for both. Avik also spend a stint at the Data Mining and Complex Adaptive Systems Group of the Computational Sciences Division at NASA Ames Research Center; working on text mining techniques to automatically detect recurrent anomalies across various shuttle launches from the launch report. He has also worked as an independent consultant on areas of analytics, text classification, sentiment analysis, web crawling, statistical modeling, etc.
Avik has done his PhD in Computing from The Open University, UK. During his PhD he has developed a novel model of "term burstiness" based on the re-occurrence pattern and inter-arrival time of terms. Before that he did his post-graduation from IIT Bombay. There he did his thesis work on text mining with Prof. Soumen Chakrabarti. Prior to that Avik did his graduation from Calcutta University. Avik has several international publications and technology patents.
