A childhood fan of the How and Why Wonder Book of Robots and Electronic Brains in the 1960's, I became interested in decision trees and rules/automatic interaction detection/genetic algorithms in the 1980's, becoming a fulltime statistician in psychiatric research in 1987, and began publishing applications, mainly using classification trees (Salford CART and Angoss KnowledgeSEEKER) in 1992. Became fulltime PhD student in Epidemiology, 2007, my thesis on analysis of psychiatric screening and diagnostic data using classification and regression trees (Salford CART) successfully passed June 2009. Am currently senior research fellow / postdoctoral fellow at Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine, Monash University, and Centre for Adolescent Health, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, Royal Children's Hospital, looking at specific symptoms of depression, and their means of identification..
