Data Mining is a very interesting field and can add a lot of value to any business. I would advise you to buy the following book written by Michael Berry and Gordon Linoff 'Data Mining Techniques For Marketing, Sales and Customer Relationship Management'. If you want to learn about/get introduced to data mining techniques and its applications in bussiness this book is a must have. Furthermore I am using SAS and R to do my data mining analysis and is currently also learning Java, but if your a beginner I would advise you to use SAS eminer.
