The complaint is also about the fact that Microsoft, located in Redmond, Washington, can't find local candidates and has to hire candidates from out-of-state (and I guess, from out-of-country), to fill big data, IT, data scientist and engineering positions. There was a long article today in the Seattle Times about how terrible Washington State is - according to Brad Smith - in terms of educating its citizens. Indeed, Washington State ranks 46 among all states in terms of the proportion of residents attending college: it's just as bad as Alabama or Mississippi.
Now here is my rebuttal to this claim:

Comment by Titus on January 29, 2012 at 11:49pm Microsoft only hires zombies (well, to be fair, let's say that 85% of all their hires are zombies - and from a shareholder point of view, it's great news). Maybe it's getting more difficult and more expensive to find great zombies. This talk is all about getting the government to help them get more visas to hire in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, India etc. and pay these new hires $20/hr in Redmond, WA.
My 2 cents: they could eliminate 75% of their workforce without noticing any differences in their total revenue.
