Top analytic blogs and websites, with trending information
Interpretation:
- This analysis is based on data submitted on sign-up by 16,000 Analyticbridge members, between February 2008 and December 2011.
- A "plus" (+) sign on the right-hand column (below) shows growth between 2008/2009 and 2010/2010. A "plus plus" (++) sign means strong growth, and is usually achieved by new web sites.
- Growth is defined as an increase in the number od members listing the website in question as a favorite web site.
- New or revamped websites (e.g. Lavastorm, Datashaping, DataScienceCentral) do not show up yet with a top rank as the spectacular traffic growth took place in the last few months of 2011 and even more so in 2012. We expect that they will be "top 10" in our next report.
- Big winners are: Flowingdata.com, Kaggle.com, R-Bloggers.com, Thearling.com, Dataminingblog.com, Tableausoftware.com, Analytics-Magazine.com, IBM, Oracle, The-Data-Mine.com, JMP, Rapid Miner, Information-Management.com, GapMiner.org, Stata.com, Hunch.net, SqlServerDatamining.com, Perceptualedge.com, VisualComplexity.com, InformationIsBeautiful.net, Tdwi.com and many more. Many sites ranked 100 or more have tied rankings, due to insufficient statistical significance.
- Biases: Unlike many reports based on social data, we have taken great care to eliminate noise, fake profiles and web spammers. Also, we have more analytic / visualization than database / data integration people in our member database.
- Losers: Traditional job boards (as the recruiting space is evolving), everything associated with web analytics. See our article about the history and evolution of analytics for a possible explanation.
- Google, LinkedIn, SAS and other top domains show up at the top for various reasons: Google is mainly because of Google Analytics, LinkedIn is because most members list their LinkedIn profile, and SAS because they have a large base of visitors who are SAS coders (as opposed to analytic people) or people interested in SAS tech support or training.

Savita: Web sites / blogs were manually entered by users, which explains some typos that we'd like to fix for the next edition. But we've checked the top 50 as well as typos visually easy to detect.

The sas.com domain has quite a lot to offer to analytical professionals, and its popularity is not solely due to "SAS coders." The blogs.sas.com domain contains blogs that are of interest to analytical professionals. The support.sas.com domain contains all of the documentation for analytical procedures, but also includes Web examples, research papers, conference proceedings, and newsletters. The site also features the SAS Press bookstore, which includes many analytical titles. Lastly, the communities.sas.com domain contains the SAS Discussion Forums where analytical professionals ask questions and share experiences related to solving analytical problems by using SAS software.
